Monuments

 Buis-les-Baronnies

Market-place, with 15th century arcades.

  • Two former convents :
  • Dominican convent : Built in 1594, to replace the original convent, outside the town walls, which was destroyed during the religious wars in 1562. The Dominicans arrived in Buis in 1309. Today, the convent is a holiday centre.
  • Ursuline convent : Built in 1679, recently converted to a cultural centre (exhibition and conference rooms, library) and housing. The Renaissance Door of the former convent chapel is one of Buis’ most impressive monuments.
  • The town walls : surviving remnants include the 13th century Saffre Tower and the «gendarmerie» Tower, once used as a prison.
  • The old romanesque bridge : over the river Ouveze, called « Pont Neuf », built in 1690.
